In this ongoing quickfire ‘behind the scenes’ series, we meet FINkit people from across the business, giving you a flavour of who we are and what we do.
Stephen Jordan is Lead of Quality Engineering at FINkit in our Cardiff office.
Thanks for joining us today Stephen! It’s the usual 5 questions so that people can get to know more about who you are and what you do at FINkit …
1. In a nutshell, what’s an average day for you?
I don’t think I’ve ever had an average day at FINkit so far, but I’ve certainly had plenty of fun, challenging and stimulating days. Typically I’m heavily involved in providing support, guidance and direction to our feature teams in testing, assurance and quality matters, as well as helping shape and continually improve our processes and ways of working.
2. Best thing about FINkit?
From my perspective, it is our progressive assurance test approach that leverages the FINkit Automated Test Framework used by the Continuous Delivery pipeline to subject individual changes to different levels and types of test as it is propagated up through the environment stack. This also includes automated non-functional Performance tests which I am particularly proud of.
3. What makes you want to come to work every day?
I have a fantastic team, great boss and our culture of continual improvement makes it a genuine pleasure to come to work every day.
4. Why are we different to anyone else?
We’re pushing the boundary of what is achievable in a financial services development environment. Having worked in this environment for many years we’ve been able to identify pain points and ways of working that were holding us back. We’ve solved them with FINkit and have new approaches to how we work.
5. What’s your go-to downtime activity?
I’m a keen golfer but often find it difficult to get a game in as I have two young children. They occupy the vast majority of my free time. I try and hit the gym on my lunch break as often as I can. We also have a weekly game of football which helps keep us active. I’m a big fan of movies and gaming and also enjoy cooking and eating out – well all food in general really!
