In this ongoing quick-fire ‘behind the scenes’ series, we meet FINkit people from across the business, giving you a flavour of who we are and what we do. Phil Kench is a FINkit Platform Product Manager, based in our London office.
Thanks for joining us today Phil! It’s the usual 5 questions so that people can get to know more about who you are and what you do at FINkit …
1. In a nutshell, what’s an average day for a FINkit Platform Product Manager?
It’s a mix, as you almost inevitably say in a product role. For me, it’s working with customers and reviewing market trends to understand where we need to take the FINkit platform. Our priority is to enable our customers (banks) to deliver change quickly, continuously and reliably. I work closely with our platform delivery teams, but also our sales team and our engineering leadership team. I keep the backlog balanced with everyone’s requirements.
2. Best thing about FINkit?
We’re a small enough company that it’s easy to communicate and align our goals, but at the same time we continue to build quite a unique platform to allow banks to transform how they deliver change to their customers, a shift which I think we all look forward to seeing.
3. What makes you want to come to work every day?
Camaraderie of shared goals, working toward making the platform as good as it can be, no side projects, we’re very driven!
4. Why are we different to anyone else?
There’s a lot of experience in the team in delivering services to banks and we all aspire to use that experience to do something better, which comes from a combination of technology but also the processes we have adopted to work very efficiently.
5. What’s your go-to downtime activity?
Cooking is one of my great passions outside work, though the odd cake does come with me to the office too. Otherwise, my wife and I are restoring our house back to some of its Victorian glory, which we have to balance with some country walks to clear the plaster dust from our lungs.
