In this ongoing quickfire ‘behind the scenes’ series, we meet FINkit people from across the business, giving you a flavour of who we are and what we do.
Gareth Sullivan is a Software Engineer at FINkit in our Cardiff office.
Hi Gareth and thanks for your time! It’s the usual 5 questions so that people can get to know more about who you are and what you do at FINkit …
1. In a nutshell, what’s an average day for you?
We work cross functional teams in an agile environment so it means working on user stories or sub-tasks that we have refined and planned for the sprint together as a team. These could be DevOps, development or testing user stories.
2. Best thing about FINkit?
The accessible and intuitive infrastructure it provides, which allows developers to quickly write, test and deploy microservices to production with minimal effort.
3. What makes you want to come to work every day?
It’s a relaxed yet productive environment that I think produces high quality output, of which I’m proud to be part of. In addition to that, I get to sit next to Edward James Maxwell-Lyte (Yes! That’s a real person’s name). He is a talented guy with a great beard and GSOH.
4. Why are we different to anyone else?
We continually ask what is the next thing we need to do to improve the product and the end user experience. We value the dream rather than focusing on hitting artificial milestones – we focus on the dream of the perfect product rather than on the obstacles preventing us from achieving it.
5. What’s your go-to downtime activity?
I have a wife and 3 children aged 8, 6 and 4 so there is no such thing as downtime! I enjoy getting out on the bike and doing some road-cycling when I can, miles are my meditation. With family in tow, it’s the simple days out together, getting outdoors and wearing them out, that makes me happy.
